How a Solo World Champion Uses Epsom Salt

Rebecca Rusch is an accomplished adventure racer and pro mountain biker who rides for Specialized and can kick pretty much anyone’s ass when it comes to endurance races. She just bagged a three-peat win at the 24 Hours of Adrenalin Solo World Championships. And eight days after Worlds, she decided to jump in on the Super D at Crankworx in Colorado for fun–and took first place. Check it out here.

What’s next for you?
Racing the Leadville 100 and then some international endurance MTB racing to some exotic places. Then shop appearances for Specialized and some media stuff. Twenty-four hour solo Worlds was the primary race, so the remaining half of the season is focused less on performance and more on spreading the gospel of riding dirt. Also hanging in Ketcham, Idaho doing long rides with friends and taking advantage of the riding that’s left this summer. Plus, getting back into the fire station here and putting some time in with that part of my life.

A Trainer's Tips for Staying Motivated

I was once dubbed The Tenacious Trainer. I took it as a compliment. Once I have a plan, I stick to it.

Easy for you to say, you are probably thinking, because all you are focusing on is one training regimen. Not quite so easy when you are juggling lots of life's different balls.

All it takes is for one thing to go wrong, and then it seems that everything does. And that''s when you say to yourself, why am I doing this?

Well, I go through that in my everyday life as well. And I have found, by using tenacity and applying my training mentality to everyday problems, I can stay motivated. Finish up the task. Achieve my goals. Here are my five top tips for staying motivated.

Women and Weights: Why You Need Them

1. You'll Lose More Fat Than You'll Gain in Muscle

Westcott and his colleagues have done numerous weight training studies involving thousands of women and have never had anyone complain about bulking up. In fact, Westcott's research shows that the average woman who strength trains two to three times a week for eight weeks gains 1.75 pounds of lean weight or muscle and loses 3.5 pounds of fat. Unlike men, women typically don't gain size from strength training, because compared to men, women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause bulking up, explains Kraemer.

2. Your New Muscle Will Help Fight Obesity

As you add muscle from strength training, your resting metabolism will increase, so you'll burn more calories all day long, notes Westcott. For each pound of muscle you gain, you'll burn 35 to 50 more calories daily. So, for example, if you gain three pounds of muscle and burn 40 extra calories for each pound, you'll burn 120 more calories per day, or approximately 3,600 more calories per month. That equates to a loss of 10 to 12 pounds in one year!

How to Waste Your Time At the Gym

When I exercise I have no problem being super efficient with my time, but sometimes when I go in to gyms and just observe what’s happening I see many people falling for the same old Gym traos and I guarantee these are the people that are struggling to lose weight or aren’t too serious about their health.

Sure they’ve joined a gym, which great and fabulous but having a gym membership doesn’t do jack squat for your health if you’re not utilizing it to properly.
